Hi there! My name is Claire Toney and I specialize in Documentary Family Photography. My goal for every Family and Child Photo Session is to capture the real personalities behind the smiles. When you hire me for a photography session, you are hiring someone that will take the time necessary to help everyone feel comfortable.

I enjoy working with families, especially those with young children. During our time together, I focus on capturing the moments that you may not notice as you go through your daily activities. These unposed sessions allow everyday events to naturally unfold so I can photograph them as honestly as possible. It is my job to visually record the real interactions between your loved ones, as I know how fleeting those moments can be.

The best location for these Life Sessions will be somewhere meaningful to you, such as your home, the beach where you spend most of your summers, or a cabin that is a home-away-from-home during the cold winter months.

There are so many things that we, as parents, take for granted. Photographs of those "little things" become precious when they are all you have. The evening cuddles your husband gives your kids at bedtime, the chubby cheeks of your youngest child when he's eating. the way your little girl purses her lips when she is reading with you or creating a new fingerpainting. Oh those little things really are BIG things aren't they? Wouldn't it be wonderful to have some visual reminders of these things before they go away forever, and know that you are in those images too?

Child Portrait Documentary Sessions are very similar, but the child takes center stage. We'll discuss how we can create an environment where you child/ren can feel comfortable so that I can capture images that will reflect their everyday lives.

Some things about me:

  • I've been an artist all my life. I graduated from San Jose State University in General Studio Art in 1997. I was on track for a Graphic Design degree and I was one semester away from it. That last semester, I realized that I needed to create my vision, not anyone else's. I then continued to receive an MA in Educational Counseling.
  • I started out my college career as a Child Development major.
  • My favorite colors are purple and turquoise
  • My children have never liked to be in front of the camera
  • I'm an outgoing introvert
  • Seeing the Aurora Borealis has been on my bucket list since I was 5 years old
