A Day in the Life with the Pendleton Family
On November 27th, I met up with the Pendleton family for a Day in the Life photography session in Carmichael, CA, and I absolutely loved all the time I got to spend with this wonderful group of people.
I met Azy through a mutual friend. She and her husband, Anthony, have three adorable kids. Alex, the oldest, is 6, and Max, the youngest, is 2. Isabelle just turned 5, but neither of her brothers can pronounce her name, so everyone just calls her “Bo.” Azy’s parents and brother were also there during the session, so we had a house full of people who loved each other.
I loved getting to work with Azy for this session. She wants to savor her children’s childhood and to make sure she captures those memories before they are long gone. She has to work on the weekends, so she feels like she doesn’t get to do “fun things” with her kids. But watching this family, it was clear that just being around each other was a blast for each of them!
It was amazing to see the way that Azy and Anthony interacted with their kids. All of the kids are VERY active—Bo is the most energetic—and incredibly social. They all wanted to make sure I was comfortable, and while I try to be as non-interactive as possible during these sessions, it was hard not to engage with them.
In particular, I loved watching Anthony making faces at the table. It makes me so happy when dads play with their kids instead of trying to be serious all the time. I also loved the shot I got of Bo laughing with her grandmother. The two of them were giggling like they were telling schoolgirl secrets, and Bo’s smile was pure happiness. And then there was Alex making his final move in Connect 4 against his mom—the moment he dropped the final chip in their game was pure triumph!
Azy & Anthony, thank you for letting me into your home and your lives. I truly enjoyed getting to be with your family and being part of the beautiful energy that you all have together!
Azy also wrote a review for me, and I wanted to share it because it touched me so much: "Having had both formal portraits and "day in the life" shoots, I can say that you are in good hands. Capturing the details while keeping things natural can be so hard, but Claire's attention is on it. The light, the locations, professional and thorough mean that you get the best shots and in a timely manner. They are treasures that will capture your heart and show the love. Can't wait to do more shoots and watch my family grow through Claire's lens!"
