Who I Am Tween Portrait Session with Leah in Sacramento CA
Recently, I put out a call for models for anyone who wanted to be involved in my Who I Am Project, a tween portraits project for boosting tween girls’ self-esteem. Leah’s dad, Myron, answered that call, and we were able to do a lovely portrait session together on a February day in midtown Sacramento.
I met Myron when he hired me last year for his book party when Leah was only 10. Now, she is a 12-year-old tween—and such a personable, sweet young lady. She was so fun to work with, especially when I told her NOT to smile and she wound up laughing instead!
As part of the Who I Am Project, I asked Leah’s friends and family to describe her, and it was amazing to read their responses. You can read them below and see for yourself: She truly is loved!
Myron (Dad): Leah Dean is 12 years old. She is firm in her beliefs about family, fairness, and school. Leah wants everyone to be nice. She also has great intuition, because she’s an observer of the world around her, she has keen insight into what is happening in her life and around the world. She’s a lovely girl who brings humor, energy, life, and love to the darkness that can surround some of us.
Leah was the answer to a request I made to God, Goddess, Mom, and the Universe: I’d like 1 perfect daughter, please. And so, when God, Goddess, Mom, and the Universe met to talk it over, they agreed that the best daughter for me would be Leah. Leah was born Leah, because that’s who she is and will always be. She will never be denied her agency or her life, by anyone. She is Leah now and always.
Lisa (Mom): Leah is playful and interested in life. She loves her friends, her dog, her family, and being cozy and is always moving, singing, or somehow active. What I love about Leah right now is everything. Leah can always make me laugh. Her songs and dances are always expressive. Leah’s so talented in art, music, and dance. I would never want to change Leah’s sense of fun and play
Grandma and Grandpa: Leah likes to play and be silly, but she also loves to be cozy, warm, soft, and at piece. Her biggest achievement is that she has come out of her shell. Our greatest wish for Leah is that she will always know she is loved—by God, her family, and her friends—and that she will continue to be a kind, loving person.
Jennifer:She is great because she is selfless, funny, smart, has GREAT naturally curly hair, loves her dad to pieces and expresses herself freely without caring what anyone thinks about her. She was a great friend when I needed her to watch my baby, Mojito. She cuddled with himand let him sleep in her room—I knew he was in good hands!
Thank you again to Myron for bringing Leah to me and to Leah herself for being so amazing to photograph. You are a beautiful, caring person, and you have so many people who love and admire you.
